Hi!
I have a faulty 4WD switch which is mounted at my left heel. I was wondering How I could replace this faulty push button switch with a simple toggle switch? how do I Identify which wires need to be connected to engage 4WD? Has anyone out there tried? there are 5 wires into the switch so Identifying them isnt as simple as it other wise might be! I can get pictures up if thats a help to anyone! It would be great if the dash indicator also came on but not totally necessary! thanks in advance, Regards James

You really need a wiring diagram to sort out your problem. Personally, I would just replace the switch with an oem.

Thanks RJCorazza. the tractor is a US import so finding a switch is not time or money efficient as it would have to come from the States, and I cant seem to find the exact one. I will put up images.

It seems the red and black wire are just for a back light on the switch so the switch has 3 wires, my guess is that one is power in and one is power out to the light on the dash and the other is power out to the solenoid. I will check with a multi meter and see how it goes. I will put up images incase it helps.

Is that a momentary contact push button switch, or a latching push button switch that releases on the 2nd push?

07wingnut, Thanks for the question. Its in bad working condition but seems to be latching. I will check it more closely next time Im beside it...I see your point tho, If it only needs a jolt of voltage to actuate, then the toggle switch isn't a suitable replacement.

I'd suspect that push on is a latching switch.
Like push for on push again for off.
If actually so then the toggle would work.

Best is take a meter to the old switch and prove it out.
Hint, do U feel a clicking when push in?

The wire gauge might also be an indication, looks to be about 16g that suggests a 'hold' circuit while smaller would suggest a pulse.

Thanks a lot PILOON, makes sense. Im shocked there is nothing on here about them to be honest, they seem almost designed to fail and are also in a bad spot behind your heel on the floor. If I can make it work I hope to find a space for it on the dash. I will hopefully get a chance to work on it during the week.
