Kiohio,
I see your point. I think the issue here is that Sarge and I are purely consumers, not involved in the intricacies of the tractor retailing business. From my perspective, it is difficult to see why I should be expected to pay a retail price for a tractor or just a few percentage points less when I can see on TBN that some of the bigger brands are routinely discounted by 10-15% or more. I can understand that from a dealer's perspective it ain't that simple. From the consumer's side, it is confusing because we do not have the cost basis information that you work with and we know from other industries (automobile for example) that without such information we are essentially at the mercy of the dealer. I don't really know what a "great" price is for a new Kioti DK45. That situation typically raises a price conscious consumer's anxiety and is likely to push us to focus on things like percentage discount, especially when we're talking about a value brand like Kioti. I don't know if some of the smaller dealers are working on the assumption that they can earn a living by selling a dozen tractors a year at full retail. I'd rather work with a dealer who does sufficient volume that he/she can afford to make me a good deal and in so doing builds a relationship that brings me back for implements, service and my next tractor. I may be overly focused on a simplistic "percentage" discount. However, I suspect that a lot of folks who buy Kiotis are doing so because they represent the value conscious wing of tractor consumers and therefore the perception of getting a good price will continue to be a bigger factor in selling Kiotis than Kubotas or JDs for the forseeable future. Bang for the buck, not devotion to a particular color is what sold me on Kioti. You can focus on the "bang" part but it would be a mistake to think doing a good job there means you don't need to sharpen your pencil to complete the the "buck" side of the equation. From my reading of Sarge's postings, it sounds like someone did a great job selling him on the bang of the DK45 but not such a hot job on other point.
