Kioti backhoe swing boom pin lost and resulting cylinder damange

Greasing is good but the lack of grease has nothing to do with pin falling out. It is a straight pin (vertical) in an opened-bottom bore with just one cross-bolt at the bottom (5/16th", I think). WHEN that bolt breaks, (and it probably will if you use your backhoe on less than smooth ground), your BH can slide off the ear and damage the cylinders. Currently, I have my snowblower on so BH is under a tarp covered in snow, so no supporting pictures at this time.Bob

Are you referring this bolt?
Is it a 2485?

Interesting,

Have not lost a pin since, even though I had them make a spare one

Would it be possible to get the dimensions of your spare modified pin maybe a picture?

The upper pin holding the backhoe swing boom (KB2375 for CK35 HST) came out without my knowing.

It appears that the frame of the swing boom is now bent - although the boom still swings very freely. Should I just leave it or attempt to pound it back into place?

After the pin was lost, the cylinders held the load until they broke. Are they likely to be usable if I take them to a good welder? Replacement is very expensive.

Somewhat related - I've lost many pivot pins on the back hoe and FEL. Is this the result of not enough greasing? I grease every 50 hrs of operation, but that could be 1-2 years, without shelter from rain.
TIA.

I may not be correct on this, but with the rust on the rod ends and looking at the swing connection, original welds were faulty. A good welding shop can fix this, Question - are the cylinders OK - looks like they would have gotten inot a big bind before breaking the welds. As for the bent frame - I would get it straightened out if possible.

The top hat bolt is a must when you put this back together - good luck.

I will have a look and get back to you.

As mentioned, here are some pictures of my spare pin. It should be noted that I should have stored this in packing grease.

Pin Dia 1.5". Top Hat Dia 2", pin length 4 1/2" Overall length 4 3/4".

Thank you very much for that Bob. I had no idea of this potential problem.
I'll change that when I but my hoe on in the spring and have the bushings on hand as well.
Thanks again.
Roger.

You are welcome, I suggest that if you get them made, ensure they put in the grease journals and zerk fitting. The visible hole in the pin is drilled down from the top hat where grease is able to travel from the zerk to the hole and spread outward through BH motion. With this top hat, I do not use the bottom retaining cross bolt. The cross bolt hole should have been drilled when I had the pins machined but I failed to bring in the measurements so thought I could drill myself once fitted. Once it was fitted, I did not think it was required. Good luck, Bob

Update - I had them welded and both worked initially. However, after I re-installed them, I saw that one cylinder has a bent rod and started leaking after a few hrs of hard use digging out a tree stump. To the welder, I failed to mention the advise to cover with wet rag to avoid splatter and thermal damage - but he seemed competent - so its probably the bent rod and dirt.
Thank you for help!

Hi Avondale, I am looking to replace the pins on my backhoe. I like the modified version you have had made. I live an hour away from you. Might it be possible to have 4 more made? Can you let me know the details?

Thanks,
Fred
