King Kutter II #TG-48

Has anyone have experience using a 48" tiller with a TC 24D, or similar HP tractor. It weighs over 500 lbs. I would be using it on a 3-4 acre flat, sandy loam soil plot.

It calls for a 20-35 HP tractor, but I want to make sure my mine can handle it.

As far as tilling I think you will be fine. May have to slow up some on untouched soils but otherwise you will be ok. Some front end weight might help also like having your loader on if you can.

Looking at the New Holland web page they show a 50".

I just purchased a tc24 and I got a 50" rotomec (designed for 20-40 hp) with side shift and I have been truly amazed at what this little tractor and tiller has done and will do. My soil is not very good and in places not very flat yet it has done everything I expected and more. Some places require more than one pass as the book suggest anyway. I have worn out a good sears rear tine tiller in last 12 years with several hundred hours and have gotten more tilling in last month with tractor than in any previous year. Amazing, love my tractor.

I'm using a 60 in King cutter with my TC-30 hydro. According to the recomendations my pto hp is at the VERY low end of the hp requirements and I've haven't had a problem. My soil is also sandy loam and had been worked before, but my guess is you'll be very happy. How does your pto spec sheet hp number compare hp what King Kutter recommends?

Just a side note on the tiller itsefl.. While it works well, I wasn't all that impressed with the workmanship. The bolt holes on the pto shield don't line up; I had to grind a corner off one of the skids to be able to adjust to deepest penetration; and the paint isn't even pretending to stay on.

Thanks Murph, Pat and Wipp. I have weights on the tractor and I was hoping it would be OK. The HP range suggested by Kutter is 20-35. The HP at the PTO for my TC24 D is 19.5. Sorry to hear about the workmanship on the KK. I liked the idea of the gear drive, and the price is not too bad either.

Is their a clear choice for a quality tiller?

Your power situation sounds similar to mine. KK says I need 25 hp for the tiller and the book says I have 24.5 at the pto. There wasn't even a hint of hesitation when using it this spring, but I wasn't really asking a lot of it either. As for the tiller, the only other gear drive I could find in my area was Bush Hog and it was nearly twice the price of the KK. I guess the question is if chain drive would be all that bad. I don't know. The problems with the tiller aren't really substantive (so far). Since the paint is coming off anyway maybe I'll paint it blue this winter.

I rented a 60" KK tiller for my TC24 (it was all they had) The rental guy said "try it if its too big I won't charge ya). I had a little trouble hooking up the tiller but after that , ****, if that tractor didn't eat it up. I have sandy loam soil that hasn't been broken in 15 years and was able to till a 50 x 75 ft garden in no time.
