Pay?? Around here in Wayne County (just a couple counties north of you) almost all the fire fighters are volunteers. They need to ask the voters for money just like the schools.
They had a bake sale at one of our football games. The advertising line over the P.A. went something like "If you come to our sale, we'll come to your fire!" They sold out of cookies in short order.
