Children die or get attacked by dogs every year. I own two dogs. Does that make me a bad parent?
Children drown in ponds and swimming pools every year. I have a pond, and my parents next door have a pool we use all the time. Does that make me a bad parent?
Children get injured on swing sets all the time. I have a swing-set for my kids. Does that make me a bad parent?
Children get injured falling down steps all the time. I have a basement in my house with a full flight of steps going down there. Does that make me a bad parent?
Children stick things in outlets and get shocked. Most of my outlets dont have the child safety plugs in them. Does that make me a bad parent?
Children get injured all the time on ATV's. My 6-year old son has a 80cc youth ATV. Does that make me a bad parent?
MY son also has a 22 rifle that he likes to shoot, does that make me a bad parent?
And yes, I mow with my kids and take them for tractor rides. But we have already established that doing so makes me a bad parent.

Another reason why I insist on backing into parking spots. Few things are more pitiful to watch than some moron trying to back out into traffic when they could just drive out.

Yes, Freedom.

It all comes down to whether someone considers something to be a risk, and how risk adverse they are. Best way to approach someone, if you absolutely have to, is with non-directory statement of facts. "Say, Jim, you know that 23 kids were killed in the U.S. last year riding in their Dad's laps exactly that way?" and just leave it at that.

Using this arguement, kids belong in cars, they get killed if they are outside (behind) them. With that, kids should be riding on mowers, it is only when they are not on the mower they get hurt...

My S-I-L thinks it's fun to give the toddlers "tractor rides" while she's bushhogging. More than once I have said to her; "please be VERY careful doing that - I have heard about a number of horrible, tragic accidents happening just that way". She seems shocked and horrified. Says she will be careful. Hasn't made her stop doing it yet. Maybe at least she actually IS being more careful? One can only hope, and pray.

yes when they have to blindly place 2/3 of the vehicle out into traffic before they can see vs 1/3 of the vehicle. Parents also back over their children, they don't drive forward over them. it's safer to slow traffic with your brake lights and signal backing in than it is to try and rabbit backwards out into traffic then change direction.
