Kubota L4240
I am getting ready to purchase the BH92 backhoe for a Kubota L4240. Hard to find anything used, so I may have to bite the bullet and dive into purchasing a new one. Two questions:

I would like to save the $500 and assemble and install it myself. Any suggestions, warnings, etc?

I would like to purchase a mechanical thumb. Anyone have much experience with anything other than the Kubota thumb for the BH92 backhoe?

Also, has anyone had any experience with a Woods backhoe in place of the Kubota?

Wow, Kubota has a thumb, for their Backhoes? I don't mean to get off topic, but could you give me more info about that. The only thing I see for the BH90, is the Brotek thumb. You will find a lot of links on this site for those.

I can't figure it out. They make a thumb, and a quick attach system for a 26 hp tlb, but not for a 44 hp machine.

I don't know a lot about this, but I have been researching backhoes a little and the BH92 has replaced the BH90. Kubota now offers both a mechanical and hydraulic thumb on the bh92, and it has a curved boom plus it fits newer cab models.

Sorry I couldn't help with the original questions, I am looking for the same answers. Currently I am leaning towards the Woods bh90-x, as I believe it is quite a bit cheaper. However I would like to hear what people think about the kubota bh92, I havn't read any reviews on them.

Well I got the BH92 today. I hauled it home in three crates. One for the backhoe and dipper, one crate with the mechanical thumb, and one crate with the sub frame, and numerous plastic bags of hardware, hydraulic tubes, hoses, fittings....etc. I had to remove the wheels on the L4240 to mount the sub frame. That was fun. It was like being a kid again, building a model, only this time is was the real thing. I got stumped when it came to connecting the hydraulics. The assembly directions where a bit unclear. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and get more details. It really wasn't as hard as I imagined. I had to use a cherry picker to lift up the back of the sub frame, then a hydraulic jack to lift up the front end, bolted it all together with a few other brackets, and tightened it all down with the impact. Tomorrow I'll lift the backhoe off the trailer with the loader and hopefully get it all together. I'll let you know how it works.
