K46 Tranny

So I have an appointment with the dealer to look at my X300 Tranny that is going bad. Thank goodness it is still under warrantee. Does anyone know if they will put the exact problematic type tranny back in or have they fixed the issues with the K46 and the replacement should last longer?

Haven't heard anything about changes or upgrades, haven't heard of them substituting synthetic oil either which would be better. Let us know how this works out for you.

Hopefully I can get 3 years out of the new one before I need to upgrade to the K66.

I've been doing a bit of research on the K46 as compared to the Hydro Gear T-2 (which Husqvarna just changed to in the past few months).

I have found a lot of threads around the various boards related to the K46 problems/performance failures being attributable to the need to change the oil after break-in (to remove the metal particulates from break-in), and periodically thereafter. Oil breakdown due to heat is the reason cited for issues. Of course, changing the oil is significantly impeded due to the tractor OEMs declining the $0.25 drain plug option offered by Tuff Torq, thus requiring removal and inversion of the transaxle in order to drain the oil via the filler on top of the case.

Best to change the scrawny little K46 out of the K66. Rebuilding a light weight K46 is a waste of time and money.
