thanks! yeah, that's what i've been doing. that and looking on ebay. my friend also has been debating about getting an aftermarket air kit. he has the same truck as mine, so i told him i wanted his stock air box if he decided to go through with it. if anyone hears of anything just send me a PM. need one for a 2004 silverado Z71 with the 5.3

There's probably hundreds of stock boxes sitting on shelves in garages across the country gathering dust.

I had one, thought it was cool, didn't notice any difference, then read about them, then sold it on Ebay to a Mustand owner(same filter as my truck).

Case closed!!

I did that this last spring and haven't noticed any difference at all in fuel economy. Other than the stench of rotten egg in my truck, there's no difference at all.

I took the foam filter out of my motorcycle and installed a K&N. I had to rejet the carb. It runs a lot better. The foam filter was like trying to breathe through your mouth with a rag stuffed in it. The filter is in a 1948 H-D FL Panhead so it didn't turn it into a drag bike.

I would never put K&N filters in anything that would be driven off road. Including my pickup.
