Just how do you BUY AMERICAN?

But before that happens, the Chinese will exploit cheap African labor as they are pouring money into Africa in a big way.

Very true, the chinese dont share our moral standards and dont hesitate to exploit the African worker, building infrastructure in exchange for natural resources like oil and industrial diamonds.

I've read in a newspaper that a Chinese raw material supplier helped an African local company grow, supplying China contractors working in Africa with their processed material.

After a while the chinese wanted to cut out the middle man and refused to deliver any more raw material if the plant wouldnt sell shares to the Chinese....

I dont think its taxes, workers, unions or regulation. I think the blame is split between corporate greed and consumer indifference.

Also very true, in the elections, voters want animal and environment friendly production. In the supermarket they want just the bargains, and not pay the price for the added cost involved... In a Dutch market research, 60% of the questioned people said that they were concerned about welfare... only 20% said that they EVER purchased the more expensive food with an "animal welfare" label...

There is a major difference between what comes out of a consumers mouth, and what comes out of the consumers hand....

This subject has been gone over time and again in the towing forums. Its a global market and its going to stay that way tanks to our government. I have no problem buying something that was made overseas, even trucks or cars. What I have a problem with is we only export a few cents for every dollar worth of good we import. It should be a dollar for a dollar or we do not do business with that country.

Buy used. My 1951 Farmall Super A is all-American (built either in Chicago or Louisville). One neighbor has a Ford 8N Another has a Ford 2N. Both built in Dearborn, MI. All three of these tractors run fine and can put in a good day's work.

While these tractors are good old machines they are just that, old. There will come a time when you will have to bite the bullet and get a new one then what will you do?

I agree they can still work hard but do not hold a candle to the new machines. I have a Ford 861 Powermaster and its 1/4 the tractor my Chinese Jinma 254/284 is.

Let me put my 2cents in
I agree with you on all of the above it might hurt us financially but there is a bigger problem

in china crackers made in USA packaged in Mexico I WANT TO KNOW WHERE MY FOOD COMES FROM !!!

INSECT
Now we have the Asian Longhorn beetle to to worry about and who knows what else is already here.

Does it matter ?
WHY does it matter ?
You want cheap ? - You got cheap.
Does the US EXport anything ?

Would you get steamed up about the Hardly Doesn'tRun plant in York, PA ?
(if you knew, maybe you do).

I will never buy a Chinese tractor, truck or car. Some of the parts may be from China-there's nothing I can do about that, but no way a Chinese nameplate. I don't care how cheap they are.

My reasons are many but many Americans died defending China from the Japanese invasion at the beginning of WWII. Our country saved China from being overrun by Japan and the thanks we get from China is billions in patent infringement, unfair trade imbalances, dumping of their products into our markets subsidized by their govenment and currency manipulation on a massive scale. Now China is performing naval excersises with that clown in Venezuela out near Cuba.

Call me crazy or laugh, but China is harming us everyday, yet Americans don't care. They just keep buying their cheap, plentiful products on a massive scale. As much as I hate to say it, Americans are just too stupid to know that they are bit by bit digging their way to a lower social status with every Chinese product they buy.

Someday, this will all come back to haunt us. At a minimum, we will lose our world power status to China if we don't begin to reverse the process. China is building factories and infrastructure at a furious pace and America is tearing her's down just as fast.

What are you trying to say ????

If you read in my post #19 in this thread,
If we dont want the people in low cost counties to profit from the luxury we buy, we'd either have to settle for lower wages ourself, or accept that the production cost of luxury will double. Either way we wouldnt be able to afford the luxury anymore....

Can you tell me, do we principally agree here, or did i misunderstand ?

Not sure what you're up to, but I hope you do realise the effect of keeping our Western "status" will be that we'd have to settle for less.... We can rant against the Chinese, but are we willing to give up our luxurious life with cheap China made computers, cellphones, flatscreen TV ??? If these goods had been produced in our own country, with wages similar to ours, we wouldnt be able to afford them anymore...

There is just an economical imbalance in the reasoning in "buying american" (or buying Western world for that matter) vs. buying chinese...

I don't mind buying from foreign countries, it's buying from China that harms our country. If you read my previous posts and look at my own personal consumption patterns, you'd see that I do buy foreign products. I just try like heck to avoid Chinese.
