I just got a new job responsibility. I am answering calls from farmers and tractor lovers who need brake discs, steering clutch discs, PTOs, etc. & seeing if we (Tribco) have them in stock. Just today, I received two calls about a MF and an AGCO tractor on which the OEM discs had short wear life, asbestos or dust particles were messing things up. Has anyone out there in Tractor Land had this problem? Appreciate your input on this and/or other tractor brake, clutch problems.

Many of the modern tractor disc brakes are wet brakes. They have a very high life cycle of a few thousand hours between failures. Loader tractors will go though brakes more than other tractors.
Brakes on tractors are not used as much as brakes on cars, Tractor brakes are used when roading, making tight turns and when stopping. Tractors are not stopped as much as a car because most fieldwork is set up to reduce stops and keep the tractor moving. These factors contribute to the high mean time between replacement.
The forum your on has mostly compact tractor users, they use their machines an average of 75-150 hours a year, most wet brakes will last to the 2000-4000 hour mark. A commercial farmer will use their machines more often, and will wear their brakes less as they will have a multidisc wet brake on their machines that has reduced wear over a single disc wet brake system.

Thank you for the info. I get it. We do seem to get a lot of calls for old tractors. Sometimes the parts are no longer made by the OEM. We can strip and reline those parts. Also, I have heard from a number of John Deere skid steer owners. I have found at ag shows that lots of guys seem to have one old, vintage tractor in the corner of their farm. Again, thanks.
