I would expect this from you sully , only you know how things should be tested. If only everyone else knew as much as you the world would be a better place. I should have asked you how to perform this test b-4 I went out on my own. If I had ran amsoil 1st & then installed m 1 & the #s came out the same ,It wouldn't be good enough for you cause you just don't like amsoil !The lab that performes the test thought it was a good way to compare the 2 but, it doesn't supprise me that you don't think so.You should open your own oil lab & charge for your expert advise.
Oh come on! There are a lot of good points made in this thread, and yours about temperature is one of them. It is very difficult to know the meaning of results without approaching them from every whichway and seeing a robust trend. A single simple test, even tho well set up usually only gives you an excuse for a tentative conclusion. Conclusive testing is almost by definition tedious because what ifs abound. I think it would be a big step forward in this if yould alternate a few times and then do a 2 or 3 in a row of each. If the trend stays youve got it. - Probably. Then tedium starts - T, driving conditions, etc. These should cancel out in several cycles. What wont is you knowing which oil is in there. Subtle differences in result such as you saw are hard to bring to an absolute conclusion w/o tedium.

Kenmac, that is exactly what I found a few years ago. I also strongly agree with you about Walmart "synthetic" and Rotella "synthetic". I'd admit, between the two, I'd choose Walmart over Rotella, but neither is anywhere close to the quality needed for extended oil drains. Good info Kenmac. I'd not worry about naysayers, they are likely yet to discover that the world is actually not flat. ;)

You know dargo, If you were to use different brands of gasoline to see which one gave you the best gas mileage. I'am sure there are a few out there that would tell you that you didn't perform the test the correct way. You would need to remove your gasoilne tank , have it flushed out by a gasoline tank flushing co. fill the tank with one type of gasoline drive x miles, check mileage. have the tank flushed again & fill the tank with the other gasoline drive x miles & check mileage on this brand. Then ,I don't know if you would be correct by all ! Mabe I should have had the engine flushed b-4 each oil sample.   I would like to know if any of the floks that respond ever have an oil analysis done. If they do , they should post their results here so we could tell them that they did it all wrong !

Kenmax - If if all was the same, some people will say "what was your weight in the car, air in tires, full tank of gas or half"...

To close, good luck with having people post their oil results. You are in a small group of people that do this, let alone posting the results. Just do a search most are talkers....

Well.."if everyone knew as much as I did"..AMSOIL woud be out of business!!

But regardless of that..your test wasnt done properly..if you cant SEE THAT...then your no "smarter" that the oil you constantly praise!! You have NEVER seen me say that Amsoil wasnt a good oil...I have no idea because Ive never even tried it...because of its PRYAMID marketing scheme..plain and simple! It does NOT have API endorsement..and even their own fictious labeling.which LOOKS LIKE the API "label" is a fraud.

Run the test properly..and we can all be happy campers. You already have an established baseline fo the Mobile 1...now..establish a baseling for the AmSoil..and give us THOSE results...NOT something you just dream up and pull out of your rump and call it POSITIVE PROOF!

Personally I dont care what brand or grade or weight of oil you use..and if "some of you" didnt talk down every decent product on the market..because your all caught up in the furls of the AmSoil corp banner wrapping around you...no one would even give your drivel a second glance!

You fall into your own pit because of your flippance! Nothing more. You and some select others talk down each OTHER product likes its the lowest form of "lubrication" ever devised..and over 250 million people will tell you thats total BS!

Do the testing properly..or dont wave the corporate banner in everyones face!

I doubt if anyone on this forum etc knew that much they would get Amsoil out of business. Just not gonna happen here. As I stated before in my last post the test is not 100% but it IS something. So far it is more then others have posted yourself included. At least he is posting something; most users here talk but do not post anything.

What is funny is most, like yourself, have to knock their marketing practice when many other business do the samething. Nevermind the fact that you do not even use there oil, let alone try it. Most users (90% of the time) come down to knocking the marketing since they can’t knock the oil. This is a poor way to debate a product.

Next is the 10+-year old beaten-to-death never-ending API symbol. There are reasons why they do not want it certified. I for one and glad and I do not put they much trust into a little symbol. Some do but most BITOG along with myself could careless. Even people who are chemist and a Tribolgist say it is a good oil. I care about the additives and basestocks; not a little donut, unless you work at Dunkin Donuts.

I feel based on your post, based on the tone etc, even if Kenmax had 5 of each, 90% of the user would find ANYTHING to discredit his finding for him. It is the same old story and same ending with Amsoil or Mobil debates. This is one reason again why I do not even post my oil questions here since they all turn out the same. Don’t believe me, do a search.

All this from a dealer, me, (years ago) and used the product for a long time. Now I used Mobil since Amsoil is getting to high in price in their engine oils.

My-bad...I have a 1974 C30 with a 350 engine that has run over 400,000 miles using AMSOIL. Replaced a water pump and a broken rocker arm. This has been mainly farm use, pulling and hauling. AMSOIL must not be all that bad.
As for their marketing scheme, how is it that much different than most other oils going from manufacturing to shelf????????????? How many people get a cut of that???????? The manufacture does not sell direct to the retail store, it passes thru severial hands.

   / just compared oils #19
Whitetiger, I think that is most of Amzoils problems, they don't sell in retail stores. I do not special order motor oil.

Actually, that is one of their main benefits for us, we do not shop retail for oil.

It's much better just to have superior Amsoil products delivered in 55 gallons drums direct to the farm.
