Why not run a hose between the 2 vent plugs as a balance tube? That way the pressure would be equal on both sides and the system still sealed.

I can't remember but either Ford or GM has a little check valve at the end of the hose so water and dirt don't enter, I think it was GM. But if you put it in the filler it still won't let each "wheel gear" equalize pressure, I had to open both wheel caps to equalize the pressure, so I think you would have to do both wheel caps I believe.
I believe a vent in only the fill plug will work...even though you had to remove each individual hub's plug (as predicted) to equalize the pressure, I believe part of the problem is caused the warmth of the fluid under use...hopefully, if you start out with a path to atmosphere for the warm vapor, the fluid will seek and find it's level much easier. I've already experimented to see if it would work by removing the fill plug and putting in a short piece of PVC pipe stuffed with steel wool. Mowed about 6-7 hours one day last year with that arrangement and each time I checked it was level. By the way, I've since switched from hydraulic oil in the front axle to gear oil.
