A vehicle that will no longer be on public roads can be registered non-op for a fee.

I think I have over now 20 non-op registered even though they are fully insured.

The license fees keep going up and older vehicle smog checks have doubled because few shops have dyno set ups now.

The ATV is often registered but if no one knows you have it and it never leaves the farm that works… issue is loading up off private property.

If you do nothing but park it in your garage the state will be looking for you and up to 3 years fees and penalties can be collected…

Some put vehicles on trailers to exit California…
The last sentence sounds like the best idea, the only better idea would be for them to be loaded with all of the owners stuff and never look back after crossing the state line.

At one time my plan was to relocate to WA state but doubtful now.

Over the last 20 years I’ve seen Washington become more like California.

Moving 50 vehicles to another state and then paying WA state taxes as if I just bought them makes no sense.

The climate on the West side isn’t kind… the leather on the car I keep there shows mildew…

Property taxes in 20 years have increased from 6500 to 24,000 making a sustainable retirement unlikely for me.

Seeing other places around the country made me realize California cars isn’t a myth… 20, 30 or 40 year old cars that are rust free.

Tucson works for keeping rust at bay..... 🤣 but a bit warmer than the bay area.

You have to like heat and a dry climate. The winters are really nice in Tucson. I love to visit there, but full time life in the desert isn’t for me.

I can understand why many avoid the endless cycle that starts once you are in the system…

Garbage in equals garbage out.
This flow reminded me of Blank Reg.... dug up this clip....

Max Headroom, circa mid '80s..... slays me, how prescient good sci-fi writers can be......

I guess I'm just sloppy with my drink . . .
I'm totally with you, re. messed up (implementations of) technology.....

I have one brainiac niece I keep in touch with... she's busy enough (3rd Uni degree @ moment) that I don't bother her too often. Last longer conversation we had, I made some reference to T2.... I'm forgetting how old that movie is; she hasn't seen it.

Everything is online, but since I've sent her a few of what I call "John Connor Books", which she enjoyed, I should send her a copy of T2 on DVD. Maybe a dvd player too, as I shouldn't assume youngsters have one....

The gas tank in a Model T Ford WAS under the front seat. You had to lift the cushion to access the filler for the tank.
All of the Willy's/Jeep MB/GPW/CJ series were too, from WWII until 1971. Even then some folks would add them so they had that extra capacity in addition to the new rear tanks.

Back in the 1970's I remember people also adding a tank under the passenger seat, to match the one under the driver seat.

I agree there are way too many gadgets. My 2013 does not have nav or a big touch screen and only has what I wanted. I don't think I can find anything similar new these days. Maybe I could get close if I ordered one. I refuse to get a 5.5' bed that I can't even lay a rod and reel down in. Before all the extended cabs came out and became more common I never would think of getting anything less than an 8' bed. A 5.5' bed is ridiculous for a work truck. I guess you could pull a trailer. Problem with the huge cabs is the payload capacity drops too low. I think there is an overlooked marked for something more basic for a work vehicle. Problem is a lot of the dealers only seem to stock the loaded trucks. I see those and the price, and I leave.

Have not priced trucks since buying my new 2000 1-ton regular cab and chassis that I put a 11ft flat bed on. Might be an option to get one that you can put your own bed on and have a more traditional truck. Just a thought.
