I just bought an M6800 to replace my L4330. It is a 2000 model according to the dealer. My L4330 is a 2003 model and it has a sychronized shuttle. I assumed that the M6800 also had the same sychronized shuttle becasue they both have the same gear set up..i.e 8F and 8R. Was I wrong? I just noticed that after operating it some this afternoon that you have to let the tractor come to a complete stop before you shift from Forward to Reverse or Reverse to Forward if you don't you get the grinding sound. My L4330 is not like that. If this is really the way it is suppose to be then I am ok with it, I just want to make sure nothing is wrong. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

We had a 2003 model M6800 2WD and it had a shuttle and you didn't have to come to a complete stop....Very rugged tractor. Dad cleared massive amounts of brush (had a Bushhog M446 loader) and never had a moments trouble with it. Got a very good trade-in price on it for a 2006 M9540 4WD.

The M6800 comes both ways: shuttle shift, and sychronized shuttle shift. It sounds like you have the shuttle shift and you would need to come to a complete stop before shifting forward/reverse or reverse/forward.

That would kinda suck.

You have the shuttle shift which you have to use the clutch to go different directions. I have a 2004 M6800 cab 4x4 loader and have yet to have any problems. The shuttle shift works great. I have 5210 JD, 285 MF, and 3600 ford tractors and my next tractor will be a Kubota also. One thing I would recommend is put weights in the real wheel(If you don't cast rims behind) as it will make a lot of difference in the tractor.

There are actually a number of M6800 models - I don't remember how many but there are quite a few different flavors. They are basically the same tractor, but there are a number of little changes between models. The transmissions can definately vary.

Great tractors, though. There are jobs I don't like to use them for (mowing comes to mind, unless it is in the really wide open) but for most things I love 'em.

If it works the same as my M7040, and I'd be willing to bet it is . . .
with synchro shuttle you do NOT have to come to a complete stop but you DO have to clutch. With HYDRAULIC synchro shuttle you do not have to come to a complete stop OR clutch. Hope that helps.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help. It does look like after a little research that this M6800 does not have the synchro shuttle which is a little hard to get used to, but I think it will be ok with some practice. Other than that I really think that it will perform very well for what I need it to do. I used it today with a small backhoe and some very muddy front end loader work and it done an excellent job. This tractor seems to be balanced very well.
