Tractor
Mahindra 4110
I've been "looking" for a couple of years, just not able to make that decision. Visited the JD dealer yesterday. He had some Mahindras in so I asked his advise for my purposes. He advised a 4110. I came back home, logged on here and looked over all the 4110 posts and comments I could find. Then a guy I know from Vermont (I'm in Maine) advised I call a Kubota dealer friend of his who also sells Mahindra. He recommended the 4110, too. Two hours ago, I became the proud owner of a Mahindra 4110 w/FEL. This is the first tractor I've ever owned. I'm 56, retired, living on a 60 acre woodlot and had been doing some logging on shares, paying other to do driveway maint, do snowplowing in the winter and had to pay a lot for someone to load sand in my loader etc. It just seemed like every time I turned around, I was wishing I had a tractor and loader.

Delivery - 9:00 tomorrow morning.

Thanks to everyone who posted about their experiences.

Congratulations!

Hmmm... a JD and a Kubota dealer recommending a Mahindra. Interesting indeed.

Hope you have many years of enjoyment.

Congratulations! 56, retired, 60 acres to play on, AND a new tractor! I hope you don't mind if I envy you some. I'm 36 and would love to be retired in 20 years (or less /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif).

Enjoy your retirement and your new tractor. Keep us posted.

Later,

congrats on the 4110.

I have 2810 HST and have had great luck with it.

I was looking for HST . that's why I went with that model, but I was looking hard at the 4110.

I'm sure you will enjoy it.
You don't realize how handy a tractor with a FEL is until you own one.

great choice

Hi folks ... new member here.
I too am the owner of a new 4110 purchased in early August and logged on 177 hours as of mid September. This is my first machine and it is my opinion, Mahindra is a good value.

I have done extensive backhoe and frontend loader work on my Vermont house construction property and the 4110 is a fully capable workhorse. To date, had a minor glow plug relay problem and the dealer picked the machine up, repaired it as warranty work and returned it the next day.

Congratulations on your wise purchase and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the 4110.

Any advice on what I should be sure and ask tomorrow when its delivered? My only experience with any type of tractor was 40 years ago on a farm in Iowa with a JD A & B from about the early '50s. And they had no hydraulics.

Any advice in general?

I hope you don't mind me coming here and asking really, really basic questions. I'll try to find technical names for things, instead of just "that thing in front of your foot". I've been reading the manuals tonight but I'm hoping some things make more sense with practical use.

my 4110 is not yet 3yr old, 470+ hrs, and I still love this machine, put some heavy time in the beginning but have run out of projects that need my tractor - now its just used for my horses and brush hogging my fields
just get on the machine and operate EVERYTHING while dealer is still there, ask about the draft control, float position on loader, disconecting the loader from tractor, most can just be figured out yourself, but its nice if someone can "show you". Are the tires loaded- you will need that for pulling logs and pushing Snow, just too much to mention!

good luck and be safe with your new tractor

Good choice !! I'm sure you'll find the 4110 is quite a workhorse for it's size and very easy to operate once you've mastered the controls and "feel" of everything. You'll definitely want to load the rear tires- especially with the FEL, and for the traction and the ride. I've had my right at 4 years now and right at 900 hours. You'll want to add a toolbox - I mounted a .30 cal ammo can at the back right above where the triangle sign mounts - 2 bolts drilled into the sheetmetal. I keep a few absolutely necessary tools in there and my smokes & truck keys etc. when I'm out on the job. The toolbox under the floormat is good for extra pins, shear bolts etc. but not quite big enough for most tools. I also bought some split poly looming when it was new and covered all my rubber hydraulic hoses, using plastic cable ties at the ends to hold it snug - was a very good investment - keeps abrasion non-existant and degradation from the sun & ozone. I think I paid about $18 for a 50 foot roll at my local parts store. I grease the front loader and front tractor alemites every day that I use it, the other grease points don't need it that often, i.e. the levelling box on the 3 pt. and the brake and clutch points. Usually every 2 months or so. Hope you get as good of service as I have out of mine !!

asdf,
When you're excited with the delivery of a new tractor you forget all the questions you wanted to ask so don't hesitate to do so here. Everyone here has been very helpful, especially to the newbie and those of you who share your experience and knowledge are to be congratulated. My learning curve was greatly reduced thanks to that help. Danny /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ok, I'm having stuff come up all the time. I had it 2.5 hours and lost the cap to the front axle. Come to find out, it was my fault - I took it out in the woods and something came up and poked it hard enought to bend it and force it out of the housing. I'd like to Wayne Kirkpatrick (salesman who sold me the tractor) and Ryan Jarvais (Service Writer/Technician) of Hammond Tractor Co in Union. I called Wayne about it. He called Ryan who came up and confirmed the problem. Then put a rush order on the part. Arrived in two days. They were going to cover it under warranty until I found the cap and it was obvious what had happened, so I just paid the part and shipping cost.

I do have a question, though. I'm going over some pretty rough terrain and using the loader to move sand (I stockpile 16 yards for a winter plowing and sanding business). I've almost tipped over about four times so far. Anything more than about half a bucket load will bring the back wheels up. Can I use a 55 gal barrel filled with sand on the 3ph and chain it around to both sides of the rear axle for ballast? Then let it rest on the drawbar? The barrel would be resting on the lift arms and drawbar to steady it.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. I'm hoping to eventually get a backhoe for it. Would that provide enough ballast?
