It always amazes me how some people in this great country of ours can take the time to look down on those who may not speak our language perfectly, but yet who speak it as a second language and probably do speak one different language perfectly, while not doing too bad with ours...and who probably do a lot better with ours than we could do with theirs.

I suggest that anyone who has the time to look down on others, try speaking THEIR LANGUAGE to them...and see how well YOU do.

It is a big world out there, with more than one culture in it...

Hey, perhaps some of us may get lucky and get a neighbor like MDbarb has, who speaks the language perfectly AND knows how to play the game here as well... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ... in place of someone from a foreign land who for whatever reason may not meet our personal expectations.

First off, I respect your opinion, greatly . That being said, I understand what and where your post is going. It is a touchy slippery slope.

Here is MY problem, now this may sound racist, yep, here we go...

Our country was founded on liberty and freedom from persecution. Our founding fathers adopted English a primary language. We kind of let people in the door, expecting through our history to blend into our society.

Well start blending... that means adopting English. So forgive me if I look down on you because you cannot speak the language of your new home. You see a lot of people gave up an awful lot for the privilege of living here. Privilege has some responsibility attached to it. When you take the oath of citizenship, the history of that oath was spoken millions of times by people before you in English.

I can speak in different tounges too, and some different languages. I was taught in our fine schools, public at that, by English speaking teachers. German, Russian and some Arabic.

Sorry to have strayed off the subject, I shall apologize now. This is my opinion. Humble, or trying to be.

My comments are specific to the people that only revert back to not understanding English when it is too there advantage to do so. I have no problem with people that speak broken English because that is the best that they can do. If I were to go to there native country, I doubt that they would adapt to my speaking only English. I would need to learn there language out of necessity. In the USA, we don't force people to speak our language, because there are whole populations of people in certain cities that only speak there native language and expect us to cater to them. Call any large company and see how the phones are answered. Push 1 for English, Push 2 for ........., Push 3 for ........... In Florida, you should be fluent in French, English, & Spanish if you want to succeed in business in some areas. Gee guys,

I sure don't know how this post got in the direction it did?? But I sure wish the moderators would put a stop to it. The customer I was talking about originally could only speak english because he was born and raised in the United States by parents who were born in the United States who's parents were born and raised in the United States and so on. My laugh of the day was not pointed at any nationality at all. The person that accused my service man of stealing could have been anyone or any nationality. This is the United States of America and we will always have other nationalities. Yes it would be nice if foreigners would speak english but when your raised on another language your natural instinct will be to speak what ever is easiest for you. We all take the path of least resistence in everything we do. Now if they purposely use their language to talk against you that is wrong, but we all can't assume just because they are talking in their language that they are saying something against you. Gee maybe as a past time we could learn some of the other languages. You know I have always had a desire to speak with my hands or sign language. I got ticked the other day because a car load of girls passed me the other day on the highway and they started moving their hands all around talking as they went by me. I am sure they were talking about how great I looked /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So let's drop the barrier between us all and get back to tractors Argh Argh Argh.

I'm lucky to be only illierate in one language let alone several! hahah anyhow the company I work for was bought out by a south american company where porgagise/spanish is the primary language. last week I aws conversing for over an hr with them in broken english but we actually got a good 10 minutes worth of information passed along! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif my first words were OLA as was his hi. so I guess you CAN teach an OLD dog new tricks but don't let my woman know or I'll disavow ever knowing anything which she will agree to (me know knowing anything that is) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

anyhow SPANISH is actually more spoken around the world than english is.

As for stealing the propane I know how he did it as I'm an electrician and we steal the electrons so we ccan take em ohme for our own use!
