I too was looking at a 1610D vs. 1810D about 4 years ago. They are very, very close in size. Nearly pulled the trigger on a 1610 but then I came across a 1720D. Again , the same size, but the XX20 denotes a few "luxury" features that are not available on the 1610.
The most noteable difference is that the powershift lever is located right next to the steering wheel on the right side of the console, which is conveinently close to the loader controls. This really speeds up loader work and allows me easier entry/exit when I'm wearing my big pack boots and more room , as mentioned earlier.
In the end I bought a 1820D as it is the most HP in that size machine. After that, they step up in weight, size, & tire size.
I also have a Koyker loader and remove / install it almost weekly. At first it was kind of a pain , until I made a few changes to my procedure. I now park the loader on a flat , hard, and level surface. I also extended the loader hydrualic lines (supply & return)by about 24". This allows me to hook up the loader controls before I connect the loader to the tractor so that I can use the loader controls to make small adjustments to get everything lined up. With this procedure, an open end wrench, and a big drift I can install the loader in under 3 minutes, and remove it in less time than that. I believe flat, hard, and level is the key to the whole operation.
I'm glad I took the extra time in looking before I bought, I could have lived with most of the machines I looked at, but its a joy to operate one that really works for my needs.

I shopped for a used tractor for three years...I researched by watching CL and e-bay...as well as every other online resource...

I also traveled a great deal looking at used machines...almost every Yanmar that I looked at or read about that was over a few years old had been rebuilt or "refurbished"...not the case with Kubota...

From what California said in a different thread "grey" Kubutas cant even get into this country (ones from Japan meant for japaneese market), they refuse them at the dock. This is the reason you dont see these old jap models here rebuilt like all the other japanese tractors, Iseki, yanmar, Mitsubishi. etc.

sorry...but this is not true...granted they may prevent some of them from getting here but there are plenty of "grey" kubotas working in this country...

Then you must have seen 'plenty' of refurbished grey Kubotas parked next to those Yanmars in your travels?

Has anyone else seen this?

Yes it is true. Been that way since 1997, look it up.

...look it up....

you go look it up...I know for a fact I looked at several used Kubota tractors that were not manufactured for use in the US...if you don't think there are gray market Kubota tractors in the US you're the one that needs to do some reserch...

here's a start:
Google

/pine, maybe you missed my question or just don't want to answer it. What year model is your Kubota? I'm just curious if it is 30 years old and never been worked on. I have a neigbor up the road that has about a 30 year old Kubota and it needs worked on.

DUH!!! . . No one ever said there were none here. It's just been illegal to bring them in since 1997.

"Please be advised that since April 30, 1997, the importation, distribution and sale in the United States of Kubota "gray market" units under 50 PTO horsepower has been prohibited by a General Exclusion Order of the United States International Trade Commission. If you wish to obtain a copy of this Order, please write to our General Counsel:
