Ok, this is a simple and free solution i think can help thin out our junk mail initially.
Firstly, both my spouse and I are on the no solitication credit list, however, Capital One and American Express believe we can garner salvation if we obtain a pre approved card and thus, continually mail to us!

My hope is that others will begin doing what i do, i stuff as much of their marketing material back into the return envelope with our name removed and send it back to them. they then have to handle this by hourly employees. i'd imagine the threshold for mailings my be low percentage wise if, say, 10% of pre approved credit offers come back without personal information to fulfill the bogus request?

i wonder how much paper is wasted on unwanted marketing offers? i used to burn them, doing my part to add hydrocarbons into our childrens future breaths...

this is also a little fun, anyone with me??? :)

I feel your pain :D

I used to religiously do what you are doing now, but slacked off for a while when it didn't seem to matter.

Now, let's say I get a Mastercard promotion and an NRA solicitation on the same day, I stuff each of them with the other's junk and mail it out.

Yes, I am a member of the NRA and they solicit me all the time (at least weekly). I have contacted them repeatedly to tell them to stop calling, I'll send when I feel like it. Nope...doesn't work. So now, they can read Mastercards mail and vice versa.

On days I only get one solicitation, I'll wait until I get another one (usually the next day), then stuff with each other's and mail them out.

I guess I'm a rebel.

Podunk

ps. Tallyho lucky number 8, I like your style...never thought of leaving my name on it...will now:):)

If TV commercials and junk mail were economic indicators... this country would be booming right now!

Perhaps someone knows if this is true... (or internet fodder?)

I once read that you can take those preapproved return envelopes, attach them to say, a 2'x3' cardboard BOX and fill the cardboard box with... newspapers....rocks..... anything that would be within the limitations of the USPS to carry...

Tape the return envelope to the outside of the box and they will (supposedly) return the entire BOX to them, charging postage for the entire contents.

I've never done this and have always intended to call my local post office to inquire if I could "pay" for a box to be shipped using this method.

I've never done it though.

Anyone here, work for the post office & know the answer?

If true, it would be a really sweet way of sending them yesterdays news!

Richard, If that is true, I would never have to make another trip to the local landfill!

I used to do the same thing, maybe even add some extra stuff for more weight. Then, I started leaving my information on there, but writing "Remove me from your mailing list" with a sharpie on the application. It seems to work.

Do not mail them a brick, etc. First, you can not put an item in a post office mail box that weighs over 13 ounces. You must hand it to a mail clerk. Any overweight item with no return address goes to the dead-letter box and costs our post office system money and makes our prices rise.
