I am replacing the old oil pressure gauge on my Jubilee and need to replace the tube to the gauge from the engine, too. To replace the the oil pressure tube it is necessary to remove the hydraulic pump to gain access to where the tube connects to the oil galley on the right-hand side of the engine. The old tube screws directly into the oil galley. I see listed in the Master Parts Catalog two listings for Elbows one 87381-S Elbow - 1/4 (Tube to Block Assembly) Flared Fitting and the other 87379-S Elbow - 1/8 (Tube to Block). Apparently, I currently don't have these with my old gauge connection and it sounds like they would allow servicing of the oil pressure gauge and tube without removing the hydraulic pump. Is this true? Will somebody please describe these fittings to me since there are no pictures of them in any catalogs and I haven't found any pictures on-line of them.

Thanks,
Billy

You shouldn't need to constantly service the oil line.. thus once you get it replaced.. it will likely survive the rest of the tractors working life.. since you would need to remove the hydro pump any to install new fittings.. I kinda see it as a wash.

if she's a worked and not a trailer queen, here's something you can try.

when I got my naa, the oil line was about 8" long, and pounded flat and soldered at the end ( WHY? ) In any case, I used a tubing cutrter and cut it square, polished the line with steel wool, grabbed a 1/8 to 1/8 compression union and a pack of 1/8 metal oil line, plus a pack of adapters from sumpro and a 10$ sunpro gauge... had the gauge in and new line plumbed to the stub of the old line and oil pressure going within 10 minutes. TThis repair has been in place for ? 10 ys now with no issues..

way easier than removing the pump, renewing the gasket and orings to the plumbing.. just for a 3$ fitting..ford put in a real hard to reach spot..

Soundguy,

Thanks for your reply. I had to do some work on my steering gearbox and needed to remove the instrument panel. The fitting at the gauge end of the oil pressure line was frozen in place and no amount of persuasion would get it to come loose, so accounting for the age and the relative inexpensiveness of the gauge I just cut the line. If I would have examined the other end of the line and seen how inexcessable it was behind the pump I might would have done otherwise. Hindsight is 20/20.

Like so much of the work I've done on my Jubilee over the past year, experience is great teacher and alot of experience comes sometimes from ignorance and other times it comes from stupid mistakes.

I found a couple pictures of the oil pressure gauge line in Tharran E. Gaines book "How to Restore Ford Tractors" and as you could guess: one picture showed it screwed directly into to oil galley hole and the other showed a nice little 90 degree elbow fitting screwed into the oil galley hole and the oil line screwed to it. Since very few places even list it in their catalog or show it as out of stock, I guess that I will just screw it directly in and take care not to kink the tube.

Thanks again,
Billy

If you still have a stub.. I think I'd just couple it.. personally.

wait till you try to get that hyd plumbing on the pump to seal good :) Use only CNH orings.. not tisco if you can help it... BTDT.. had the leaks..

I have no way of confirming if I have oil pressure on my NAA. I used the tractor for 6 months doing heavy yard work and the pressure was fine. Decided to fix it up a bit and paint it which took over a year, and now I have no oil pressure that I can see. Put a new fitting and oil pressure line on and started and ran it but no oil coming out of the oil pressure line to the gauge. Removed the oil pump and it looks great. The press. relief valve is free and wear is minimal on gears, etc. I ran it longer than I was comfortable with and it ran fine with no hint of seizing or oil starvation but still no oil coming out the tube to the gauge! Does anyone have any ideas?

welcome.

you might have wanted to start your very own topic instead of tagging onto one over 4ys old!

i'd check the oil pump drive and dixxy.. see if you can make the pump work mocked up

Brand new to this.Sorry! I couldn't find out how/where to start., so just tagged onto the subject I was dealing with. Does dixxy = distributor? I did notice wear in the oil pump shaft bushing, could oil be leaking (loosing pressure ) thru that?

sould have been dizzy ( for distribuitor ).

I type on a phone. keypad is way way to small to use...

i'd check to make sure the pump is even being turned...
