Just brought her home yesterday. 1995 JD 6400 with a 620 Loader. 3,100 hours.

What you all know about these?

Congratulations. If you don't already have one, it would be in your best interest to obtain an Owner's Manual. Best wishes.

Looks like a good find to me. I need one similar myself.

That's a 100HP monster machine.

Nice tractor, a couple of models back from my 6415, from the picture I see you have the HD bucket (I wish mine had the HD bucket)

Thanks for mentioning that. I did not realize it. What is the difference?

The easiest thing to see is the bucket sides have a reinforcement along the edge. Std buckets only have a small piece at the bottom corner at each side. The cutting edge is drilled for a bolt on cutting edge (your picture was not a good enough angle to tell, you may have the bolt on cutting edge, or not). The welded on cutting edge is longer, front to back than the std cutting edge. Heard heavier metal used for the bucket body.

I owned a 6300 with the Comfortguard cab back in 1993. It has the Powerquad transmission which gave you 4 speeds in each range without clutching. Of course you had to stop to change ranges but what a slick transmission. I had traded a 4030 with the Soundguard cab which was pretty good for its day but no comparison to the Comfortguard cab. It has the 16 speed quad range transmission which had basically a two speed high-low power shift but fairly crude in comparison to the Powerquad.

I sold it two years later as it was a bit of an "overkill" for my small acreage. But what a fantastic tractor. You should be pleased with your 6400.

When I look at what prices the compact utility tractors with the Comfortguard cabs bring it almost seems to make sense to look at the 6200-6400, or the ten series that replaced them.
