JohnDeere 550 Gator

I don't know my gator is completely different than the 550. Just know the dealership in our area is not that good. I had problems with them with my 5325. I am sure it's not that much wrong. They just give you the run around.

I looked at the Gator 550 but ended up with a Polaris 500. I liked the Gator's suspension and it ran ok, but it was warm when I tested it. My Polaris was made in Mexico so fingers crossed on it's quality. So far so good, but only 22 hours.

The suspension on the 550 truly works well. The motor issues that some of you speak of have not showed up for me. Starts easily in 15 degree weather as well as 50 degrees. Not as fast as the Polaris but I have gotten over the need for speed. The ride and leg/foot room sold us on this machine. The wheel well hump is not as pronounced in the 550 as it is in the other models plus it is easy to get in and out of

Wife bought a 550S4 ,dealer has worked on the carb twice since July. I will say after being worked on , gas mileage is much, much better. It still seems hard to start , or I just haven't figured out the proper steps to take. Ride is very nice ,not fond of B&S engine, but I guess time will tell. Since July have over a 100hrs so far. The other week went through 12 -15" of snow ,no problems , glad because I didn't have a shovel with me and about a mile from the house.
