Been there, done that. Total fail is having to leave implement and tractor there and walk out to get home. Or worst total fail is damaging equipment and then having to walk out.

If you work fields in any crop that you have tight windows to get baling of hay or spraying or planting done sooner or later you are fighting the elements.

If the whole purpose of the excercise was to pull your load somewhere and it stayed stuck in the field, I would have to say it was a TOTAL fail.

I know that crops have to be harvested, fields have to be prepared and there are time constraints to everything. But going out in the field and having this happen accomplishes nothing. Is THIS THE WAY that most will use to check for acceptable operating conditions???

I'm sure everything was fine and good to go when he started:
- with an empty light wagon.
- in the part of the field that wasn't as soft.

Typically it's not a static, uniform situation. It's more "Well, stay away from that spot, or only go here but not there if you're loaded heavy." Sometimes the only way one finds the "edge", is by going over it.

And it is sometimes amazing where you find these soft spots. Could be half way up a hill, top of the hill, highest spot in the field. As Forest Gump says "it happens"

Somewhat like the sage advice handed out regards tornado safety guidelines.

"Go to a safe place".. Duh! that be unknown place for sure, until after the tornado passes by.


Same with soft spots.. most of them can drive right on through, but there are the 5% that it won't happen that way..
