Can anybody tell me the size and grade bolt for a jd 1018 10' bushhog shear pin. Are they metric? 3/8's is to small and I sheared 2 of them today bush hogging. Does the bushhog have to be timed so the blades wont hit? I sheared a pin last year and replaced it without a problem with a 3/8 bolt grade 8. Every bolt I put in today sheared right off the bat?

Are you engaging the PTO at idle?

You can probably find the operator's manual for your cutter online at Deere's website. It would give you the shear pin specs.

Most shear pins are 1/2 inch bolt. Usually 3 or 3.5 inches long. Most people use the softest grade bolt.

I have already looked. You can buy one but nothing is free.

I was told last night that if it is john deere, it is metric? It is bigger than 3/8 but smaller than 7/16 so I guess they are right.

Yes, 10mm and all the store had was 8.8. I guess i am OLD. I would have thought that it would not have been metric!
