I just bought a New JD MX10 cutter to replace my MX6 :dance1:

I'm sold on the sloped DUAL layered top deck, blade speed & rear tail wheel design.

I don't like the front chain setup though (borrowed pic)

I'm in the process of cutting & fabbing front chain bracket to have chains Strait across the front jus like the New BH 3308 :

Pix to come when finished.

What is the advantage? I bought my first ruff cut mower this summer so i know very little about them.

I fail to see the advantage?

I took my front chains off. They pushed and kept stuff down and the blades couldn't cut as cleanly. No problems at all this year and I don't miss them.

It'll let you mow up a little closer to objects & not have thin sheet metal to get folded double If / When you hang something.

Really no advantage but I did it for looks lol

I wanted the chains because twin spindle cutter blades are throwing grass forward in center of deck the way they turn opposite directions.

Having a straight chain will allow you to mow closer?

Yea like closer up to a stump your straddling or a tree / post right beside your rear tires with cutter being about 2ft wider on each side.

Cool, I'd like to see that. Be sure and show us all some pics.

We love pics!

Here's one side mocked up.
Gotta paint, bolt it on & hang chains :

Does it not throw grass back up under your tractor ?

I agree the Front Chains does fold the grass over & doesn't get cut as well.

I can always unbolt my chain brackets for a trial run

It's def worth a shot! I mowed alot of acres with my neighbors mx10 with 0 chain guards and he would have very nicely cut fields. Mine came with front and rear guards and I was never happy with the cut quality in the taller grass. After I took them off it worked noticeably better. I have wondered about taking the rears off to clear the debris faster but I'm not real thrilled with the thought of stuff flying out the rear at high speeds. That is a serious mower and wouldn't flinch at a large rock or piece of wood.

I took the rear chains off my BEFCO 110" RFM & couldn't be happier :dance1:
It doesn't have chains or deflector up front.

I'm mowing on my farm & not around any homes or vehicles :D

I guess I don't mow any new areas and most of the brush is gone, maybe next season I'll ditch my rear chains and see if I get a better cut quality?

The point in chains is not to keep grass in. It's to keep from rocks, sticks, ect from becoming projectiles.

I still don't understand how a straight chain will help cut closer than the original contoured one.

Front side of deck

Factory front chains hangs 12-14" in front on blade tips.

They'll be 4-5" with them STRAIT across the frt edge of deck.

The domed guards up front, hits the object before the blade gets to it.

MX8 front chains hangs STRAIT across ...

.

Yeah yeah chains keep crap under I hear ya. They really hinder the performance of the mower. I think all of these idiots who mow their yards with the chute on the lawnmower tied up are a bigger threat to public safety than me mowing my back 40 in the middle of a multi acre field.

I thinkbrown dog means level?
