The fuel gauge on almost new D130 registers full- it's based on a fulcrum that weighs the tank w/ no electrical. Had it repaired under warrenty, filled the tank, back to registering full after two uses w/ no added fuel. If you lift the tank up w/ hand, the gauge level changes, release the tank, goes back to reading full.

Could the tank have shifted or something, and if so where should it rest on the little fulcrum?

I had the same problem on a JD3520. Always read full never trusted it. Finally after a long day of use the guage read 3/4 Figured I just didn't run it long enough to use up the fuel.

Did you ever get further info on this ? I have exactly the same problem, with exactly the same tractore, D130. Also had it fixed and after a couple tanks ( ok I did not count but was NOT long ) , it was back stuck on full again. I also tried to jack up the back of the tractor section as though I was going to take the gas tank out. I looked in there and can see the fulcrum, and there is a lot of "play" to move the tank around and up and down, but I did not succeed in figuring out how to "fix it" so it would read properly again. Any further info or did you just "live with it" ?

Has anyone had a solution for the D130?

My D-130 started acting up about a year ago. Fuel gage would read full but engine would surge for a few minutes and eventually die. Lots of troubleshooting and thought it was clogs, filter or bad fuel line… which lead me to the screwed up tank design.

Wife drives like mario andretti on this thing to get the chores done. I kept noticing when the tank was almost half empty it would start sputtering. Looked under seat and saw the tank was cocked.. probably from all the bouncing she does whipping around. Re-seated the rear part of the tank(bottom outside corners) and she would run great for a few weeks. Oh by the way… gas indicator became accurate once more. Few weeks later same issue.

Finally got tired of hearing the: I DONT drive fast B.S. and knew i had to do something to fool proof. I took a bungi cord from the frame outer rear case on both sides and wrapped it around the hump on black hump that surrounds the gas cap. This keeps the tank seated on rear mounts.

Note: gas gage still works albeit a little slower due to the counter pressure of the bungi cord. If its a little sticky, lightly giggle to get it to work accurately. I fill the tank each time we mow, so not to worried about it. As you mow, the bouncing keeps it accurate anyway.

Bottom line: BAD - Cheap design by JD.

Note: route cord under fuel lines to prevent collapsing.
