john deere amt 622 engine

i just bought an amt 622.....one week later then engine blew.......not so bad....it was cheap. i know it takes a kawasaki FE290D. i'm having a hard time finding a replacement. smallenginewarehouse has one for $625. but thats too rich for my blood. a guy on ebay has a used one for 350 (but it could be a lemon, you never know). does anyone out there know where you can get one a rebuild it yourself? or any other clever ideas?
