My local dealer has one with 184 hours for $8,500. It still has 12 months of warranty left. Does that sound like a fair deal?

Let me put it like this -

The 997 is a monster mowing machine.

List on a new one is $16,379 w/72" deck.

Depending on model year and condition.....sounds like a steal.

It's an 07 model and it does look like a monster. It should be here sometime today for me to try out. If I do buy it, there's one thing I can see it definitely needs. They make a rear bumper/grille guard. We'll see this weekend.

Thanks

Amen on the bumper grille gaurd! $370 for the bumper- ~$1200.00 for the hood and grille. No brainer! If you don't buy it let me know I'll buy that!:D

good enough deal I'd drive out there to get it if I was in the market for one. that machine should be priced closer to $12k

I've been very pleased with my 997 w/72" deck. It's cut my mowing time nearly in half. Surprising how much time is wasted on turns with a CUT. I'll be doing my first oil change on it this weekend.

Update on the 997. They brought it out Friday instead of Thursday because they didn't have a hydraulic oil filter in stock. Anyway they changed all oils, filters, sharpened the blades, greased, replaced the two rear anti scalping wheels and filled her full of diesel.

The wife mowed the lawn as I watched. That thing was slinging clippings 20'. I tried it out later on a few places I bushhog, just to see how it would do. I couldn't see how anyone could ask for anything better.

The only thing I'm going to ask is if they will replace the decals under warranty. It's no big deal, just cosmetics but they seem to be peeling off.

You might want to seriously consider buying a rear bumper/radiator guard unless it already has one. Between the oil cooler and radiator, there's some expensive parts that are easily damaged if you turn into a fence or back into something. I just installed a bumper on my 997. I might consider a suspension seat in the future.

lol, yeah some machines throw extremely far... I demoed a 997 and it was pretty powerful. Because i love the Ferris suspension mainly and am sort of brand loyal to them, i bought a gas 32hp 72" is3100z this spring. What sucks is mowing lawns wide open which have mulched tree bases... good luck, youll need to go around and circle them 2-3 passes before your out of grass clippings range of landing on em :/

I thought the JD 997 had a bumper built into the bottom of the radiator part, or your talking about if you hit something that sticks out and protrudes through the radiator part not just like a fence post or something solid and tall in height? My Ferris machines have their extreme bumper on em... not that ive ever really hit much with any of them but it would take a hard shot to dent in one of them.
