A friend of mine has a 2006 or so John Deere 990 and has never serviced anything other than the oil and filter. I know its way overdue so trying to help him out. Anyway, i've changed coolant, air filters etc but am now on the fuel items. So after looking at the manual it only mentions a rear filter / water seperator under the fuel tank which I see. But I also see a screw on filter on the right side of the engine plus a small metal pot or can thats round and a little bigger than a golf ball with electrical wiring going to it. First off do I need to change this second screw on filter or is it just a back up? Was surprised the manual didn't mention it. Also, is that small metal round thing a sensor or heater of some sort? Its located inline just before the fuel meets the screw on filter. Thank you

According to 990 parts catalog this is the only fuel filter it has and I think it way overdue needing a change. M811032 Filter Element - ELEMENT ADD 11.27 USD Golf ball looking device with wires is an electrical fuel pump(parts key 4).

Ok thank you very much. so #4 is the fuel pump so what is the filter thats between both #6 part listings? Its a spin on type filter and fuel lines run to and from it?

Sorry my mistake as I overlooked that filter as the actual filter has no parts key #. MIU800645 Fuel Filter - FILTER, FUEL OIL View/Update 14.00 USD

FYI, the JD990 is a Yanmar built CUT tractor made in Japan. It's a very nice machine.

Good chances are, a Yanmar dealer would have these filters at a better price, or a Yanmar parts provider like Hoye in TX or Fredricks in AL would have them at an even better price than any others.

Hoye (if part is not listed just call. They are refreshing their website after a decade.)
