Sickle Bar John Deere # 9

I was wondering if anyone knew if the parts for the sickle bar where the same as for say a # 39. I am refering to such as the blades, guards and holddowns. Bought a #9 off of ebay and was supposed to be field ready but it seems a lot of the blades are hitting the guards and the guards are bent up.
