John Deere 855 Quick Couplers

Hi everyone I am new to this forum, though I have read a lot the existing post and they have been very helpful. I own a John Deere 855 with a 70a loader that the previous owner stored outside. Recently I have wanted to take the loader off, but I have found that the quick coupler are rusted together. Does anyone know of a good way to get them apart. If not I would like to replace them, but the John Deere specified ones are pretty expensive. Can I buy aftermarket couplers ? If so does anyone know the thread size (metric or sae) and if I need anything special (i.e. flow rating). Thanks, Anthony

Spray some penetrating oil in them, and get a wrench on each one and twist. You should be able to break them loose, but you may still need to replace them.

I interchange deere and aftermarket couplers regularly. Just shop at your local farm supply store. i believe they are called 1/4 inch size but I would take one along just to be sure.

Is it safe to assume that when you've tried to disconnect the couplers you've powered down the engine first and released the hydraulic pressure in your lines by moving the control stick? If you haven't you'll probably find it very difficult to remove the couplers.

The price I see quoted on JD Parts for those couplers doesn't seem out of line. The coupler has a shape that will make it easier to remove since you won't get as tight a grip on it where it lives normally.

Finally, they don't use NPT threads. Instead, they use ORB - O Ring Boss which has an o-ring at the base of the male threaded portion. I have zero idea what the actual thread size is. If you have a Parker store around, you could take them there as they will have the proper connecting couplers. They may even have the exact ones that JD sells. When I added the Power Beyond to my 855 a couple of months back, I discovered that the couplers were made by Parker. Which made getting the correct couplers easy for connecting to my log splitter as there's a Parker store down from my office.
