Thanks Barry,

I believe I can do this cheaper if I can run down the part numbers I need for the application. I think I can use the Eaton P/N 117 or 127 (series 10) but not sure. These are in line torque generators and really easy to adapt to OEM with hydraulic pressure. Darrel

Rock,

Could you tell me what the power steering consist of? Is it a hydraulic torque generator and/or what is the brand and model? I am not familiar with JD's set-up.

The factory installed hydraulic pump, also used to run the 3PH and the FEL. I can't remember, but there must be a flow divider.

Then there is the control cylinder.

Your tractor undoubtedly has a 3PH and a hydro pump mounted to the front of the engine. I think you need very little else. Adding a torque convertor pump is just added complications.

Do you have a factory hydro pump installed?

Yes, there is the factory pump for the tractor. The torque generator fits inline with the steering column shaft and uses hydraulic pressure to multiply the torque. The generator can be used for different applications. Steering happens to be one of them. The generator in/out ports are simply tied into the hydraulic pressure ports of your pressure supply (this could be a separate pump, like a automotive power steering pump). There is no cylinder used for this type of application but would be used for heavier duty systems. If I could size the correct generator to my tractor, then that is all I need. The JD 650, 750, 850, 950 and maybe the 1050 would use the same one.

OK, I didn't understand what a torque generator was.

If it is an easy bolt on, that sounds like the way to go.

Is it plumbed for a FEL? With a selection valve under the seat? if so, it should be easy getting power beyond to the convertor. If all you have is the factory modulator, then things will be a little more complicated. Let me know if you need any photographs, or for me to look at my tractor.

Still confused why you don't have PS. Everything I can find states that 4x4 850-1050 tractors received PS at the factory

I need to do some checking on the correct ports and pressures to match the generator but that should be straight forward. I thought the power steering was optional on the 4WD's with a separate pump.

No, a single pump with a divider.

And standard with 950s with 4wd.

I'll look up the owners and tech manual later today.

These tractors are 100% Yanmar.made in Japan, and there was NO factory power steering made by Yanmar for them. John Deere had somebody make up an optional kit for dealers (or customers) to install. None of them came with power steering from Japan .

I won't argue the poiint of whether the PS was installed in Japan or on American soil. But the fact remains that all my information indicates that John Deere considered PS as standard equipment, and was decidely not an option, and all units of at least the 950 that had 4wd had power steering before they left JD corporate property.

If you have any information that PS was in fact a dealer installed option on 4wd I would be interested in that, but everything I can find indicates different.

I have 1st hand information, straight from the dealer. When I bought my 1050 4x4,it had No power steering, and had to take it back to the dealer to have the OPTIONAL power steering installed.
