John Deere 670 tractor overhaul kit help

Hi, Im brand new here. Ive read several post on this site before and seems like a great place to get some information. I have agreed to buy a John Deere 670 sub compact tractor from a friend for 1000 dollars. The compression is so low that it will not start. Engine turns over fine. Ive been searching the internet for about 4 hours trying to find a overhaul kit and I haven't had any luck. Its like the 670 doesn't exist. Tractordata.com says its a yanmar engine, and I type in
3tna72, and all I come up with is numbers close to what im searching. So before I go pay for this tractor and drag it home, can someone please help me with this? Im not a mechanic, but plan on learning a lot with this little tractor. I just need some guidance. Please help!! Thank You for your time and help. It will be greatly appreciated.

That is a big job, but doable. I know you would rather find after market parts but deere might be your answer. It will give you a price range. Some after market parts are higher than dealer. Welcome to TBN from Va.

The 670 was built by Yanmar so you might try the Yanmar forum. I expect you might find rebuild kit prices cheaper too. Also, the engine in the 670 (as well as most other Yanmar engines) are used in both industrial and marine applications. The engine used in the 670 was the Yanmar 3TNA72...look for overhaul kits for this engine.

My first tractor was a 670 also. Can't help with parts but I do remember that engine was very popular in sail boats as a back up.
