John Deere 66 electrical problems

Hi,
Got an old 66, pull (rope) start. No manuals. Problem is no spark.
It seems to have a blade and a neutral safety switch. What is the exact position these have to be in?
There is a small aluminum can (like a flasher unit on a car). What is this?
Would anyone have a wiring diagram? Can't be very complex.
