Is anyone here familiar with the the starting circuit on a JD 6200? I have one that will not crank with the key, but will crank fine if I jumper 12 volts to the trigger wire at the starter solenoid. The neutral safety switch tests good. The ignition switch was pretty corroded on the back, so I replaced that with a new switch from JD. Turning the key to the start position feeds 12v to the brown wire on the back of the ignition, but no voltage to to white trigger wire at the starter solenoid.

PTO switched ON?

No it's not. But since you mentioned it, the PTO doesn't work either on this tractor.

Almost certainly a safety switch.

I had PTO trouble too. Turned out to be a speed sensor FWIW.

How many hours. What tranny? LF reverser?

6400 hours, SyncroPlus. Reverse is just another gear selection on the Syncro gear trans, so no reverser.

I did install and properly adjust a new neutral safety switch. However I have that disconnected and jumpered for easier testing at this time. The multimeter confirms voltage to the neutral safety switch harness, and successfully passing through the jumper wire when the ignition switch is turned to the starting position - however that voltage never makes it to the command wire on the starter solenoid. Does it also pass through some other safety switch before getting there?

Not that it helps any with your problem, but can you describe the location of and/or the access to the neutral switch?

For the syncroplus, the neutral safety switch is located in the center of the shift cover on the right side of the gear transmission. You can access it from underneath the tractor, or from above if you remove the platform plates. It's a two wire connecter, and is the only electrical connector on the gear transmission itself.

Is there a starter relay ? (not solenoid)

Yes there is. And I'm not sure how I was overlooking it - It's bolted onto the end of the starter itself. I removed it and tested it at lunch time today. When I apply power and ground to the trigger posts, the relay activates as it should. Interestingly, when it's on the the tractor and the key is turned to the start position, both the ground wire and the trigger wire get 12 volts to them, so the relay is not activated. Thoughts on why that would be?
