John deere 5400
Hello my name is Pierre
I live in Canada, Quebec

My John deere 5400, 1998 has a 12/12 hydraulic reverse transmission and when cold is still fine, but when hot loses power in front wheel drive only, it seems to lack hydraulic oil flow. for the transmission to work well. I spoke to the dealer and they have never seen that ???
Can someone help me ??

Thank you everyone and have a nice day

I had a Deere 5520 once that had some strange things happen such as no brakes after the tractor warmed up. After a lot of angst and $500 in troubleshooting, it appears the remote levers were sticking just a tiny bit off center and causing the trans oil to overheat and cause problems. So I wiggled the remote levers and the problem went away and stayed away. The remote levers were just very slightly off center so no squealing and it took an hour for the oil to heat up and cause problems.

I have no idea if this is your issue but I have heard about others having similar odd problems like mine so it's worth a look. Our final diagnosis was with one of those laser pointer thermometers and we could see different parts of the transaxle at different temps. Definitely a Hail Mary stab at a cure but it worked.

Welcome to TBN
How are you determining that after tractor reaches operating temp. MFWD loses power?

MFWD is gear driven from trans to a drop box to front differential gears not hyd powered. Is it possible both rear & frt tires lose power?

Hello!
No, my 5400 is fitted with a hydraulic reverse, so when the oil comes hot, that's when I lose traction power!

I think hydraulic reverser clutch has a faulty seal therefore it can't hold enough pressure to keep clutch engaged when hyd oil warms up.
