A few weeks ago, I replaced the hand primer pump, installed a new fuel filter and purged the fuel system of air. My tractor started right up and ran well for about an hour and then the engine died. I installed another fuel filter and replaced the air filter and again purged the fuel system of air. My tractor started and sounded strong but then died again after running less than 10 seconds. I have purged the fuel system of air but there is apparently no air in the system but still, when I start it up, the engine runs about 10 seconds or less and then dies. Any ideas on what the problem might be. Thanks.

A few people have reported a similar problem. The problem was they were missing the o-ring that goes on top of the fuel filter. JD parts shows the o-ring comes with the filter, but I purchased a fuel filter not long ago and NO o-ring came with it.

It also helps to fill the filter before you put it on.

I would replace all the rubber fuel lines from the tank to the filter and from the injector return line to the tank. Then replace the rubber seals in the steel fuel line between the filter and the injection pump. I think you are sucking air into the fuel system somewhere.

Thank you for the response. I will remove and check the filter o-ring. I hope the o-ring is missing since that would be the easiest fix...

Thanks for the response. I will check for the o-ring on the filter first and then move on to the fuel lines as you have suggested.
