Hey guys and gals, I recently picked up a John Deere 4500 with 2500hrs on it. It came with a front end loader and a backhoe attachment already in place on the machine. I bought it knowing the 4x4 did not work but I felt like I bought it at a price that was well worth the money considering ($5000). Anyways so first things first I lifted the tractor completely up up off the ground using the loader and backhoe attachment and put the tractor in forwards gear and engaged the 4x4. All 4 wheels turned as one would expect but I can take my hand and stop either front wheel easily at any time. If you let the front end down to the ground both wheels stop pulling. Where should I start looking first? There sounds like a rattling sound coming from the left front wheel when driving in 2wd but if you engage the 4x4 it goes away..... any help or suggestions? Thanks guys!
