John Deere 4300
I have a 1999 John Deere 4300 that won't crank. I bought it new and it has served me well. It currently has 1300 hours. Prior to now, I might have had to jiggle the power reverser lever whilst turning the key to get it to turn over. Now that trick no longer works. It's as if it is in gear. I put it in neutral with the range selector, no start. I'm convinced the power reverser is not moving it to neutral. Any ideas?

A simple test light will help you diagnose your problems. More than likely a safety switch for the reverser, or another causing the problem. With it in neutral, and key on, you can check for power in/power out when the switch is activated. Once you find it, you can run a jumper wire temporarily to confirm, then replace the switch.

I'd have to guess that, or a bad ground on the battery cable.

There are a couple of relays that have to engage to crank , the K4 relay is the engine run relay and is probably the 'click' you hear when you turn the key but when you turn the key to start it must engage the K2 start relay which sends power to the starter solenoid. If it don't crank it may be the relay, you can get them online, or at JD or possibly at Auto Parts store, had the same problem replaced the relays and the diode block and problem solved, online bought a box of ten for $20 plus shipping.
