Hello canucklehead. I think that when you remover the battery then reinstalled it you got better contact on the battery post. The firest thing that you should do for a no stsrt, or no power, is battery matanice. The post and clamps, must be shiney and clean. You said that one of the post were lose. That post and battery clamp were dirty, and needed cleaning.

Canucklehead: I have a JD 430. Any diesel that stops running is not getting fuel, and the fact that it won't turn over indicates there's an electrical problem.
If you're not familiar with electrical diagnosis using a voltage meter and don't have the JD shop manual to reference readouts, do yourself a favor and take the machine to a JD dealer. The alternative? Randomly replace parts until it runs, but you also risk destroying parts if there's an electrical short. That could get expensive. My fuel solenoid doesn't work.... I have to hold the shaft in with my hand while I turn the key!!! As long as I do that, it starts like a charm, and has for years, Based on my experience, I think you have a more serious problem. Remember to have the rear wheels on dollies when you pull the 430 onto a trailer so you don't damage the hydrostatic transmission

I thought one of the levers shifts the tranny into disengage/neutral.

I too thought the tranny could be 'shifted' to let the oil bypass in the tranny. Is the 430 different for some reason? Interesting manual bypass of the fuel solenoid.

not sure beenthere. I have a manual... i could try looking in there and see what it says. but i think it can be put in a neutral type mode to move.

I did a new post and found this old one of mine. This problem seems to have reared it's ugly head again. I'll poke around some more and see what I find. frustrating.

AT LAST!!!! Found it!! Here is the culprit: this tractor had some electrical issues and my neighbour fixed it, and i bought it from him. I don't see any obvious fuses, other than 2 in-line plug/blade fuses. I don't think JD made it with these fuses, so I think these are replacements to the factory wiring.

I played with it and got it running, then we mowed for .5 hours and it wouldn't re-start. DANG!! back to the drawing board. So I removed battery & tray for the 20th time. I used jumper cable from battery to the leads and then tried wiggling wires. There were a couple of suspect wires, but they didn't produce the symptom of cutting out the battery discharge light on the display. Then I wiggled this inline fuse. It would cut out the dischage symbol on dash. The insulation is not broken, so i assume loose connection inside. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to try and find a poor electrical connection when it is internal. At least a frayed wire or bad connection is a place to start looking. This one is a pig in a poke.

I am having same trouble first I need order and type of fuses. top to bottom. I was moving them and got some Joy , Now nothing, I took them out but second guessing order I have 2 20 amp and 2 10 amp
looks like middle 2 are not in use. Daughter was driving and it stalled. She notice H20 light was on so we let cool and checked and filled all fluids. Tried this AM , messing with fuses would just click and heard fuel prime , and more lights came on, coil, oil, tried to start heard a click maybe starter or alt. then battery sparked for some reason, now nothing.0, I borrowed this JD430 because I need tires on my old yanmar and trying to get a pool in for daughters graduation,, Thanks Brian
