I was wanting to build a no till rig where I am soil is sandy. Could I slap some weights on a 7000 4 row John Deere stiffer springs and and some trash whippers and be good to go? I figured the weight would be the main issue

You should be good to go making a 7000 into a no till. From what my memory serves me of seeing them online the only thing you will probably need is a wave coulter and like you sead some trash cleaners in front of the cutting disc and it should work. Also like you said you might need some stiffer springs on the press wheel as well. Have you tried using it as is right now in a no-till situation??

No I haven't I haven't even bought one yet, but am looking into starting alittle farming and figured that planter would serve me great. that's why I was wondering how the 7000 would do with a little weight on it and not even put trash whippers or wave coulters on it.

No till is definitely the way to go. In fact there are very few farmers going the conventional till method anymore these day except for the organic farmers because no-till generally requires herbicide instead of cultivation for weed control.

Back to the 7000. These planters were designed for min-till/no till operation. With your sandy soil you most likely could buy a 7000 hook it up and drive right out in the field and have no issues with it planting. Even a JD 71 flex will plant no till in some loose soils but the 7000 is a much more robust unit.

The 4 row is pretty stout unit to the point I don't even know if they make one for 3pt so I doubt you will need to have to add weight. You might not even need a wave coulter or trash kickers prior to your double disc openers depending on what you are planting into. A lot of times if you are not planting into corn stubble you can get away without them.

Think you would be best off going that route. Purchasing the planter and seeing what it can do before putting some more $$$ into it if it is not needed. The 7000 is still a very popular unit with farmers and there are several companies that sell no till coulter assemblies that will bolt right on. I know Yetter makes a bolt on assembly but they are are pricey. I think the last time I checked they were about $450 apiece.
