John Deere 336

I'm getting into hay to help my sister with her horses so my daughter can ride for free. What kinda HP would i need to run a John Deere 336 baler with? Also if i were to pull a kicker wagon how much tractor on hilly ground would i need to be safe?

That was my first baler!! :dance1:
Baler alone, hardly nuttin....maybe 40Hp would be nice on flat ground.
Now add a wagon with 200 bales and hilly ground? I did that fairly successfully with 70HP and 4wd (Kubota M7040] The 4WD was a BIG help pulling baler & loaded wagon up a hill. Also provides extra traction braking going downhill. Short answer, Id want tractor like 7000lbs, 4x4 and 70HP. More would be better.

So something like a 4020 would be plenty of tractor then? I don’t like kicker wagons but I don’t think I’ll have enough reliable help to have someone on the wagon stacking. Also the hills make me nervous having people on the wagon so I think my best bet is to just run the kicker.

Is it 2WD? Will it pull a full wagon up your hills (if that’s necessary)?

A JD 4020 (60’s/70’s ag. tractor version) would be fine.
