Obviously, this adapter fitting is severely damaged and must be removed. The nut between the threading is corroded so badly that it will not accept a wrench, and it appears to be seriously corroded into to threading of the spool valve.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can turn that adapter fitting to see if I can get it out without breaking it off in the spool valve?

Put some penetrating oil on it and let it sit a few days. Take a dremel ( or similar tool) with a rotary burr and grind the threads down on two sides to make wrenching flats.

Thanks! That may be a bit better than what I thought I might try, which was to drill a hole through the adapter, and stick a heavy nail (12D), through it to have it act as a lever so I could turn it.

I'd try a pipe wrench, but soak it good for a few days. Depending on what you plan to do next with that valve, you could try heat on it.

Thanks to you both. Those suggestions gave me a moment of clarity!

I am performing this fix in the field. I probably have only one shot at getting that adapter out, because if that Spool Valve fails or I irreparably damage it, I may just scrap this machine. Once I got down to where I could see all the hydraulic fixtures under that seat, I started to ask myself; "Why would John Deere use such crappy metal connectors on these oil lines?" All are heavily rusted, and falling apart; and look like they will fail soon too. It's a tractor for heaven's sake! I will replace those too if this current step works out. But that is it! These things are money pits after 20 years!

Next tractor? Garage kept!
