My JD 318 starter would have to click (by turning key to start) 10-20 times, before it would engage. Sure sounded like a solenoid /starter problem. I replaced the starter/solenoid with a new one, but same problem with a few less clicks. I then ran across the answer in a Dealer Technical Assistance Center bulletin (DTAC- #12935). It recommended installation of a repair kit, which was basically a relay that can carry more current to the starter/solenoid from the battery. Kit is part # AM107421 (JD), easy to install, problem solved. Too bad I didn't find that info earlier...saved cost and aggravation of replacing starter. RDL
