I want to get a new John Deere 3120 4wd tractor with a 300CX loader. Can you all tell me what the Max Height is? As well as the lift capacity? I need to lift 1300 lbs from time to time. I can find no info on Deeres website. Please Help.

Maybe not... It is best that you go over this WITH your dealer. 1300 pounds is an aweful lot to take chances with... The amount listed is AT the pivot point. 500mm in front will be about 30% less. That is about 1000lbs. And the bucket is included in that,,, Talk to your dealer!

Mike is 100% correct about the capacity when it is measured at the pivot point the rating is easy to compare to some other brands, but it does not really reflect real world use. When you measure it 500mm in front of the pivot point (what is often referred to as Bucket Center) then the capacity drops about 30% below the pivot point rating.

And as Mike points out, the capacity does not include the actual weight of the bucket, which could weigh 300+ pounds all by itself depending on your bucket choice (light duty or H.D. and what size as a 60" will weigh considerably less than a 72" wide bucket).

I would be remiss if I also did not point out that a bucket rating's lift capacity at full height is often far lower than it can lift just 12" off the ground. So if you simply need to pick something up and moved it and dump it, then it might have the capacity you need. But if you want to pick it up to full height and dump it over the side of pick up truck bed, then you will likely be disappointed.

The listed capacity for the loader is 1598#, that means the capacity at the bucket center is roughly 1118# including the bucket weight. It could probably move 1300# of material if held only at transport height, but that would just be a gamble.

I will call them first. What machine will move that much in your mind? I want to be sure I get the right machine and loader. I'm sure someone here has moved that much weight with a loader before.

Mike knows far more about the JD products than I do, however based on the brochure on my desk, the 400 series loaders would very likely lift 1300# to full lift height without much effort.

400 series is not listed for a 3120. Will I need to get a bigger tractor?

Yes, You should at look closely at a 4120. If size is your concern, remember that they seem to get smaller after you own them. If money is the issue, let us know, I am sure we can send more! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, maybe not... But if you decide that all you CAN get is the 3120, you will be aware of its limitations and maybe find another solution, like taking smaller bites or another way to solve your problem...

When I bought my tractor, I needed one that could unload round bales from a trailor. All that i needed was the ability to set them on the ground, I could then transport them with my 3 point. No sooner did I get my tractor, I noticed that almost every person that sold hay could deliver it it with a self unloading trailor. So All I do is back up to the bales and spear them using a 3 point spear. So, I didn't even need the feature that I thought I had to have...

For all that would like to know. The 300CX loader in a 3120 tractor will pick up 1700 lbs before breakout. I was told that by the John Deere dealer. He personally has picked up 1550lbs full bucket to 7 feet with ease. Just thought I would post this for anyone who would like to know.
