Backhoe John Deere 3039R Backhoe Serial Number change?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum. I'm looking for opinions on changing serial number attached to equipment! First a little background, I purchased a 2017 John Deere 3039R tractor last spring in Chandler, AZ. I had the loader and backhoe as part of the package deal. I received my JD and attachments with all the paperwork which identified all my parts by serial number. Well, I received a phone call from someone who said they were with Stotz Equipment in Chandler, Arizona yesterday. This guy wanted to change my serial number on the 375 backhoe attachment I bought last spring. He said the factory had made an error and issued the serial number to me by mistake.????? He wanted to come out to my place and change my serial number to one he said goes to my backhoe! I told him I've never heard of a mistake like that and I have not received notification from John Deere. I would not allow this. Any thoughts? Thanks. Robert

i would think the first call you make is to your dealer if it is different from the dealer contacting you about the serial number,
if it's the same dealer, try to get an owner or upper manager on the phone to see what is going on.
this doesn't sound normal, but, sometimes stuff happens.
did you have this backhoe on a finance contract with JD Financial?

As Dutch says. Check with someone you 'know' at your supplying dealer and get something in writing. <<<

JD have a very involved procedure (To prevent fraud) for even the issuing of a 'replacement' VIN plate for any piece of their machinery. Forms and signatures required in multiple directions.

To issue a 'new' number is unheard of in my experience.

Also you should check your home security and keep everything locked securely for the time being. :2cents:

First...WTF?

Second...like Spanner said...Contact your dealership

Third...like Dutch implied...contact JD financial and confirm serial numbers with them

Fourth...contact your local police to ask them to do drive-bys of your property with the specific information about possible equipment issues until you get a handle on this
