Determine if valve is free to move in housing IE not stuck open.

I can push on the valve and feel the spring tension, can't get at it to pull it out without a magnet though. Should the spring pressure be strong enough to push the valve out?

I think spring should push valve out. Maybe jd110 will reply.

Maybe that is the root of the problem, either spring too weak or broken, or some sludge restricting movement.
That is if I get the picture of what is happening. Wish you good luck with the fix.

I can push the valve in with my finger, and it returns by the spring pressure, but I don't know how much spring pressure there should be, in my mind the spring should push the valve out of the hole and it should require a little bit of effort pushing on the valve with the plug to get the plug threaded, if you know what I mean.

LX046640_______UN11MAR05.gifLX046640_______UN11MAR05.gifThis is what my manual is Calling the flow control from valve, part #14.
But when I look it up on the John Deere parts website, it's showing the flow control valve as being down near the Hydraulic filter.

I'm sorry for confusing you but Jd added that valve on later utility tractors and I was unaware of it until now, The valve in photo down on RH side of trans case by hyd filter is the one I was referring to.

OK, problem. Is I've also got that housing down on the side of transmission, so there is a flow control valve down there, and that's what the John Deere parts website lists as the flow control valve. So which one should I be looking at?

1st remove spool valve in your photo, install plug, start engine & see if 3 pt raises.

Off topic, but when I was jacking the cab up, I broke the differential lock shaft. Would it be safe to use the tractor until my replacement arrives, or will I damage something internally?
