JD 2520
I purchased/ordered my JD 2520 Utility when they first came out. Can't remember the year. Tractor has 380 hours on it with few problems.

My battery was original and I replaced it this fall because the battery light started coming on. I figured probably the battery because it was several years old, original. Anyhow, even after replacing it, the battery light is still coming on. I've cleaned the ground connections and the battery is charging at 14.6 volts. Never have a problem starting. So does anyone have any idea what I should look for?

Thanks...

Hiya,

That sounds a bit high for a charging voltage. IIRC the charging voltage should be between 12.8 to 13.8. I have been told that some systems go a little higher but 14.6 sounds like you may have a regulator or ground issue. In the past I have found that dirty or oxidized grounds will make the charging voltage go higher.

My 2 cents,

Tom

14.6 sounds still in the ballpark for me. It's something else....

Clean both ends of the cables and look at ground from engine and chassis. 14.6 is perfect with engine running.

Before you start it, measure the voltage at the battery posts, (not on the clamps).

Then turn on the head lights for a minute and check again on the battery posts.
