Needs some input. The lift arms only come up when I release the clutch and start driving. They also start coming down when i press down on the clutch. Changed the hydraulic filter with no change. Any ideas what might be the cause. Hydraulic pump?

Sounds if there's a massive hyd internal leak. Start out by checking for spraying oil in hyd filler hole on the rear with engine running & 3 pt lever in the rear(raise) position. Next step will require a 300# gauge to check trans pump pressure. While acquiring 300# gauge you better also get a 3000# gauge to check high pressure. Does tractor have either option of hyd hi-lo or hyd ind pto? is tractor equipped with a FEL?

Thanks Jim,

There's no hyd hi-lo or hyd ind for pto. The hyd dip stick shows plenty of oil. Is it ok to overfill? One thing is that it is not rpm dependent. The arms will still lower when engaging the clutch. Just wonder which side the leak is coming, transmission or hydraulic pump. I'm not a mechanic and we will need to take it in. Just good to be prepared so that I know enough going in so I don't have to pay for any additional maintenance.

Regards.

Cost of repair by a dealer will be determined by "how knowledgeable" the service manager &/or technician is on closed-center hyd's. Closed-center hyd's can be difficult to diagnose. Do hyd's quit when clutch is only depressed low enough to shift the trans ? The only way to determine what your tractors hyd problem is by "diagnostics" with a gauge &/or flow rater.

That is strange. The 3pt hitch on that tractor should be getting its hydraulic pressure from the main pump up front. For the arms to lower when the clutch is used or not.....that is weird. Is there anything else affected? Power steering?

If you have no hi/low or reverser, nothing special. How is your PTO engaged? Do you have the control in between the gear shifters? Or do you have to clutch and flip a lever on the left side to engage/disengage the PTO? If the latter, then it would mean your clutch is mis-adjusted and it's cutting ALL input to the transmission. I have a 2030 that is like that....two stage clutch. First part, just the tranny for shifting, second push all the way down, disengages the PTO to turn on/off....though I'm not sure if it cuts power to the transmission pump.....

From the sounds of it, you may have two independent issues. One, your tranny pump may be shutting off when pushing the clutch all the way in (not sure if that's normal or not), but second issue is, your main hydraulic pump isn't providing enough pressure to keep the 3pt up. I have a JD 2240....granted, it has a rear permanently mounted hydraulic forklift....so the 3pt is no longer used.
