john deere 240 series 2

Came across a john Deere 240 series 2 the motor is bad and taken out. I am able to get this thing dirt cheap. But he said it will not free wheel tho load on a trailer said he tried taking hose off the drive motor ect. And it would not move! Anyone have any suggestions? I would find it hard to believe that it can't. What if it breaks down in the field and you need to get it home for repairs? Any thoughts would be great! Thank you!

Also looking for a place to get a used eng. For it! I'm around southern Indiana but will drive up to 3 hours to get one thanks!

Called the JD dealer they said they just drag them when they break down! Seem like it would be hard on them?
